Hydraulic design of a looped water supply network in a critical urban area using the Hazen-Williams equation

    By: Augusto S., Kai J., .

This research aimed at the hydraulic design of a large-scale looped water distribution network for the Bairro 11 de Novembro (Luanda), a critical locality facing severe deficiencies in the existing system. The methodology integrated the determination of water demand through demographic analysis, interviews, and technical consultations with hydraulic analysis using the Hardy-Cross method and the Hazen-Williams equation (C=140), applying iterative corrections (ΔQ) until loop equilibrium was achieved (ε ≤ 0.01 m). Sensitivity analysis identified the roughness coefficient (C) as the most critical parameter for head losses (S ≈ 2.6), while the demand coefficients (K₁, K₂) directly impact flow rates (S ≈ 1). The results demonstrated efficient convergence (3.7 iterations/loop on average) and hydraulic equilibrium (ΣΔH=0 m). The designed network features final flow rates ranging from 125.41 L/s (main pipes) to 5.90 L/s (secondary pipes), diameters from 350 mm to 80 mm, velocities between 0.6 and 2.9 m/s, and minimum pressures above 15 mH₂O at 92% of the nodes. The proposed solution addresses the identified technical problem and, once implemented, will transform water access. The methodology proves to be replicable for other localities with similar challenges, constituting a significant contribution to sanitation engineering in contexts of rapid urban growth.

Parental Stress in Single Parent Families with evidence from SIPA assessments and psychoeducational programs in Guatemala and international context

By: Burguillos Peña A., Polanco Rivas M.

ABSTRACT Parental stress tends to increase significantly among single parents’ families, particularly mothers, due to the burden of responsibilities, the lack of support networks, and sociotechnological transformations. The aim of this integrative review is to analyze the phenomenon of parental stress in single-parent families with adolescent children, with a particular focus on the Guatemalan context. An integrative literature review of scientific sources published in recent years in English and Spanish was conducted. The SIPA instrument (Stress Index for Parents of Adolescents) was considered as a methodological reference for assessing parental stress during adolescence. The findings, derived from the analysis of existing literature, highlight that parental stress is a multidimensional phenomenon influenced by structural, individual, and family factors. In Guatemala, where there is a high percentage of single-parent families, there is still limited evidence regarding programs targeted aimed at this population. The literature suggests that psychoeducational programs can significantly reduce parental stress, improve family dynamics, and support the emotional development of adolescents. It is concluded that there is an urgent need to design and implement culturally contextualized interventions that strengthen parental competencies. This review seeks to lay the groundwork for future research and public policies aimed at improving family well-being.

Predictive system for the behavior of the financial asset (EUR/USD) in the Forex market using machine learning tools. Case: Ecuador

By: López Huerta M., Arambarri J., Domingo S.

The present research focuses on the development of a prediction system for the EUR/USD currency pair, recognized for its stability and attractive profitability in the global market, yet subject to episodes of volatility. The study seeks to mitigate the impact of traders’ emotional management, known as “psychotrading,” a variable that can compromise the effectiveness of technical strategies in the field of trading. With the purpose of reducing the influence of the human factor in decision-making, the methodology proposed by Tinoco-Figueroa S. (2024) was adopted, who applied algorithms such as Lorentz distance and approximate nearest neighbors in the analysis of the BTC/USD currency pair. This research incorporates the use of Recurrent Neural Networks, specifically the LSTM (Long Short-Term Memory) model, given its ability to model financial time series with high accuracy. The technical implementation was carried out in the Visual Studio Code – VSCODE development environment, using the Python programming language. Historical data were obtained from the MetaTrader5 platform, establishing a real-time connection to collect information from the last 60 days with 15-minute intervals. Initially, a diagnostic assessment was conducted, followed by the design of the strategy and evaluation of the system’s performance through specific metrics. The results were compared with those obtained by Tinoco-Figueroa S. (2024), and improvement actions were proposed along with the presentation of the model’s limitations.

Os efeitos da prática da capoeira na doenca de parkinson: Impacto motor e na qualidade de vida

By: Peixoto de Souza R., .

As avaliações ocorreram na 1ª e13ªsemanas,utilizandoaEscaladeHoehn&Yahr,UPDRSIIeIII,Escala de Equilíbrio de Berg (EEB), Timed Up and Go (TUG), PDQ-39 e MOCA-Test.

Integral Training through Transdisciplinarity for Humanized Health Care: The Colombian Context

    By: Fernandez-Guayana T., Granados López H., Barrera Duarte L.

In the Colombian context, marked by social inequalities and health challenges, the training of healthcare personnel demands a profound transformation. Transdisciplinarity emerges as a key approach to integrating disciplinary and community knowledge, facilitating the understanding of the social determinants of health and promoting ethical, collaborative, and critical competencies in professionals working in vulnerable settings. Therefore, this study adopted a qualitative approach with a descriptive scope and a case study design to analyze how transdisciplinarity is experienced in two healthcare institutions located in Bucaramanga and Armenia, Colombia. Sixteen healthcare professionals participated through semi-structured interviews and document review. Data analysis was conducted using triangulation in an Excel matrix. The findings reveal that both institutions function as training centers with a commitment that goes beyond patient care. Transdisciplinarity is reflected in the way patients are treated and in the continuous professional development of staff, demonstrating a vocation for social responsibility, teaching, and research. These practices contribute to transforming healthcare delivery and to the professional growth of the human team. In the discussion, the results are contrasted with previous research, highlighting similarities, differences, or novel contributions. It is concluded that transdisciplinarity is part of everyday practice and is reflected in the collaborative work among professionals, allowing for a comprehensive view of the patient beyond the disease. Furthermore, mechanisms exist for the integration and ongoing training of staff, positioning the healthcare professional as an educational agent serving the community through clinical practice and research.
